# Databases

Astris runs Postgres and Redis databases for your apps. A database belongs to a project, and its memory counts against your plan's pool.

## Create a database

```
astris database create --project <id> --kind <kind> --name <name>
```

`--kind` is `postgres` or `redis`. Any other kind is refused with `Astris offers Postgres and Redis databases. Set kind to postgres or redis.`

The MCP tool `database` with the action `create` does the same. It takes the project name instead of the project id.

The result gives the host, the port, the user and the password, and for Postgres the database name. The password is printed on this command only, so save it now.

Your apps reach the database on the account's private network. The database has no public port.

## Read a database

```
astris database status --id <id>
```

It does not print the password.

## Delete a database

```
astris database delete --id <id> --yes
```

Without `--yes`, the command sends nothing. With it, the database and its data are removed, and the command prints `Database removed.`

## List databases

```
astris list databases
```
